rname
invoke a program under a different name

rname fakename realname [args...]

rname [-V | -h]

The rname utility invokes the specified program, passing a different name instead of the name of the program executable.

The rname utility accepts the following command-line options:

Display program usage information and exit.
Display program version information and exit.

The operation of the rname utility is not directly influenced by any environment variables.

The operation of the rname utility is not directly influenced by the contents of any files.

Run bunzip2 as bzcat:

rname bzcat bunzip2 foo.txt.bz2

The rname utility exits 0 on success, and >0 if an error occurs.

execvp(3)

The rname utility was written by Peter Pentchev in 2010 and then resurrected in 2017.
