| Introduction
| |
AWStats is
short for Advanced Web Statistics. It is a free tool that generates
advanced Web server access statistics in a graphical format. This
Web Log Analyzer
works as a CGI or from command line and shows you all possible informations
your log contains, in few graphical web pages. It uses a partial
information file to be able to process large log files, often and
quickly.

Do the following, according to your Virtual Private Servers O/S.
-
FreeBSD
& Solaris
AWStats 2.23q
Connect to your Virtual Private Servers via Telnet
or SSH, and issue these commands:
% vinstall awstats
Make sure
you examine the AWStats configuration file (~/usr/local/awstats-2.23q/cgi-bin/awstats.conf)
to make sure the installation process correctly determined your
LogFile location and HostAliases settings.

| Usage
| |
Once you are comfortable that AWStats has been correctly installed,
feel free to generate statistics for your own site by accessing
this URL:
http://YOUR-DOMAIN.NAME/cgi-awstats/awstats.pl
The CGI may
take a few moments to finish, particularly if your log files are
large in size. You can also generate statistics within a Telnet/SSH
session.
% virtual /usr/local/awstats-2.23q/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -h YOUR-DOMAIN.NAME
