| Introduction
| |
AWStats is short for Advanced Web Statistics. It is a free tool that generates
advanced Web server access statistics in a graphical format. This Web Log
Analyzer works as a CGI or from command line and shows you all possible information your log contains, in few graphical
web pages. It uses a partial information file to be able to process large log files, often and quickly.
| |
| Installation
| |
AWStats is available from the FreeBSD Ports Collection in the
/ports/www/awstats/ directory. The AWStats files will be installed by default into the /usr/local/www/cgi-bin/
directory on your VPS v2. You will need to link or copy the files into the cgi-bin of the domain you will be using AWStats
for and set up the configuration file from the sample. You will also need to check to make sure the awstats.pl script has
execute permissions.

| Usage
| |
Once you are comfortable that AWStats has been correctly installed, feel free to generate statistics for your site by accessing
this URL:
http://YOUR-DOMAIN.NAME/cgi-bin/awstats.pl
The CGI may take a few moments to finish, particularly if your log files are large in size. You can also generate statistics
within a SSH session this way:
# /usr/local/www/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -h YOUR-DOMAIN.NAME
